HelEx contributes to shaping the future of EU bio-based innovation policies

Nicolas Langlade, Research Director at INRAE and Coordinator of the HelEx project, took part in the “Expert Workshop on Bio-based Innovation, Biotechnology, Life Sciences and Digital Solutions” held in Brussels.

This high-level event was co-organised by the European Commission (DG RTD and REA) and brought together 13 Horizon Europe projects to contribute directly to upcoming EU policies, including:
– the Biotechnology Act,
– the EU Life Sciences Strategy,
– the Bioeconomy Strategy,
– and the next Horizon Europe programming cycle.

Representing HelEx, Nicolas Langlade shared insights from the project and engaged in rich discussions with fellow experts including Katja Cankar and Vincenzo Rossi from Booster Project EU CREA-CI on regulatory bottlenecks, technical gaps, and the importance of integrating life sciences, agronomy and digital tools to accelerate innovation.

🔍 Topics included microbial biostimulants, consumer trust, standardisation, AI, and access to innovation funding , all critical to scaling up bio-based solutions in Europe.

A big thank you to the European Commission for organising this strategic workshop, and for reinforcing the bridge between research and policy.
